Chapati is unleavened bread that can be grilled or deep fried. It's very easy to make and delicious.
Ingredients:
- Chapatti Flour ……………….…….2 cups
- Cumin seeds …………………….1/2 tsp
- Cooling Soma salt ………….....1/2 tsp or to taste
- Ghee ……………………................2 tbs
If you are making Poori enough Sesame oil or Ghee to deep fry the Pooris.
Hint: use a small 4-5” deep pan to conserve oil.
Instructions:
In a large bowl place the flour, salt and cumin seeds. Mix with hand while slowly
adding warm water to make dough. Set aside.
For Poori:
- Heat oil well in a deep frying pan.
- Make small balls out of the dough, using a rolling pin make round thin pancake, wait until the oil is nice and hot.
- Add the poori to oil one by one, turn over and fry until light brown and remove, set it side ways in a bowl with paper towel to absorb the excess oil.
Chapati:
- Make about 10-12 larger balls out of the dough. Roll it out to thin round pancake.
- Heat a flat frying pan, quick heat the chapatti on both sides, about 5-6 seconds each sides. Place the chapatti grill over the medium flame.
- Move the heated chapatti over to the grill; adjust the flame/heat to grill the chapatti turning to cook both sides without burning.
- Move it over to the dish, brush it with a little ghee, and set aside,
- Serve warm.
