A basic recipe for combining rice plus protein and mineral rich quinoa.
- Basmati Rice 1/2 cup
- Quinoa 1/4 cup
- cardamon 5 pods
- cinnamon 2 small sticks
- clove 4 pieces
- bay leaf 2 pieces
- salt 1 tsp
Wash rice and quinoa, add about five cups of water in a medium size pot. Add crushed cardamon, clove, salt and bay leaf. bring to a boil and then reduce heat, cook for 9 minutes, drain it on to a colander. let stand and drain for 6-7 minutes, serve warm.
Most basmati rice cooks in about 9-10 minutes which is the same cooking time for quinoa.
If you are trying to avoid rice and need more protein make it 50/50 rice and quinoa.
