Ayurvedic Milk Recipe

In Ayurveda, Milk is considered one of the most important foods because it is full of the cooling nurturing Lunar energy called Soma.  It is excellent for bones, the brain and immunity.  However, milk has bad "rap" because when it isn't prepared correctly it is too heavy to digests resulting in digestive complaints.  This recipe corrects for the richness of milk by adding spices to support the digestion.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Whole Organic milk (un-homogenized and pasture fed if possible)
  • 1/2 cup of spring water
  • 2 crushed green cardamom pods (support the digestive fire)
  • 1/4 inch stick of cinnamon (supports sugar metabolism)
  • 1 whole clove (opening to the digestive channels)

Instructions:

Coarsely crush the spice and add to the water.  Boil the water for 5 minutes.  Then add the milk and bring to a boil.  Let cool and sip.  Milk should not be taken with other food except sweet taste.  Wait at least 20 minutes after eating a meal before drinking.
