How to Help Muscle & Joint Pain
I've spent decades treating thousands of patients with back pain, neck pain, shoulder and knee injuries, arthritis, tendonitis, and sciatica using both chiropractic and Ayurveda. During that that I’ve developed protocols using our Ayurvedic formulas that have helped my patients recover from both acute and chronic pain conditions.

Why Pain Persists
Pain persists when the underlying cause isn’t being addressed. If any treatment offers only temporary relief, then it isn’t addressing the cause of the problem. Here is a video I made addressing that issue: Why Does My Back Still Hurt
The Ayurvedic Perspective
One point to understand is that pain is a signal from your body that something is wrong. In itself, it is not the problem but the result of a problem in the body.
Ayurveda teaches that pain is the result of Vata Dosha being blocked and not able to flow. Out of the 3 doshas, Vata is the only one that moves. Because it originates from Air and Space elements, it is naturally light and moving. When the channel through which Vata move becomes obstructed it causes pain.
At this point most people naturally conclude that treating pain just means balancing Vata dosha. However, to balance Vata we must fix the reason it has become vitiated, i.e. unclogging the channel.
What Obstructs Channels:
- Ama toxin – partially digested food particles creating a sticky mucous-like substance.
- Ama Visha toxin – Ama that has become oxidized and reactive making it acidic and inflammatory
- Inflammation – Ama Visha creates acidity in the system causing the channels to swell. This swelling slows or even stops the flow of material through the channel.
- Scar tissue – chronic inflammation as well as injuries create scar tissue and adhesions which physically block the channels.
- Degeneration – very chronic inflammation breaks down tissues. In the joints, inflammation destroys the cartilage allowing the bones to rub together causing arthritis and bone degeneration.
What You Can Do Today
So now we know that pain is a lack of good flow of Vata dosha. So, aside from injuries, we want to try to prevent pain and slow degeneration by keeping our channels open, alkaline and lubricated. This begins with good diet and good routine.

FAQ
What helps Fibromyalgia? – Fibromyalgia pain is the result of a breakdown in the digestive system. The pain is caused by Amy Visha (inflamed toxins) coming from the gut and liver that accumulate in the muscles causing fibrosis (scarring), chronic pain and fatigue. With professional guidelines and commitment from the patient, it can be successfully treated.
My muscle aches, what is the best cream? – Myalgia support is my first option.
What are the best creams for stiff painful joints? – Youthful joint is my first option.
I’m scheduled for knee (or any joint) surgery, can you help? – No, if surgery has been prescribed, then the joint has deteriorated too much for conservative care. After the surgery, we can help with a plan to avoid further degeneration in other joints.
What about plantar fasciitis? – Myalgia support and Vitamin D creams using the Muscle Pain Protocol.
Can you help IT Band and Piriformis Pain? Yes, with Myalgia Support and the Muscle Pain Protocol.

Musculoskeletal pain is rarely an isolated problem. It often reflects deeper imbalances involving digestion, inflammation, daily routine, old injuries, posture, stress, or other health concerns. If pain has become chronic, an Ayurvedic consultation can help identify and address the underlying causes rather than simply treating the symptoms.
If you're ready for personalized guidance, schedule an Ayurvedic consultation. I'll develop an individualized program that may include diet, herbs, lifestyle recommendations, and recipes based on your unique needs.
